If you can remember being young, foolish and in love, there will be a lot of familiar territory here. What was clearly a series of painful decisions ultimately resulted in a triumphant end.

I applaud Lisa for the courage to share her compelling lessons of love and pain and showing us how one can be successful regardless of our background.

The Grave In My Soul is one of the most moving books I have ever read. It is the autobiography of Lisa DeRoche and her journey through life. I loved the characters, the various relationships and found I could empathize with them. It was beautifully written, I felt transformed in time back to that era. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. Everyone will walk away with something that they can apply to their life.

This book is deep and touches so many struggles and things that we go through and probably scared to speak to someone about it. I find it a great book for all different age group as there is lessons and blessings that we can learn from after overcoming any obstacles. I even have my daughters into the book now!

As a man reading A grave in my soul, provided me a deep perspective into difficult choices many Women face on a constant basis. The Author deftly balances each phase of her life and tell a compelling narrative each decision at key junctions in her life, and how they affected each decision moving forward. Ms. DeRoche outlines the decision tree we all face in life, while providing perspective on how she made the decision based on her value system, Caribbean culture and the current environment during the early 80s and 90s. As a young man growing up with a similar background I can totally relate to many of themes in this book. I will use many of the books themes as teachable moments for my two young children as well.
I would highly recommend many fathers read and learn from her experiences
The book is a wonderful illustration of how a young woman made difficult choices and how she overcame them while shedding stigma and guilt to live her best life.
Great Read

A remarkably brutally transparent autobiography about the hurt, pain, tragedy, joy and ultimate triumph of an amazing black woman from Long Island, NY. Her journey is a reminder that with love, faith and a dose of #blackgirlmagic, trouble won't last always.

Couldn’t put it down. Grew up in Uniondale but didn’t know a lot of Lisa’s story. So proud of her for telling her story. Great work!
